Dr. Barry O'Donnell practises psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic psychotherapy. This work invites patients to speak in order to bring to some light the unconscious factors causing mental suffering which may be experienced as anxiety or depression. It is confidential and privileges the singularity of each person. Dr. O'Donnell is Director of Psychotherapy Programmes in UCD School of Medicine and Director of the School of Psychotherapy at St. Vincent's University Hospital. Over many years he has brought to the attention of medical doctors very relevant proposals made by the field of psychoanalysis regarding a clinician's management of the unconscious dynamics inevitably at play in the doctor-patient consultation.
