Dr. Ronan Kearney is a Consultant in Sports & Exercise Medicine at the Blackrock Clinic, Dublin. He is one of the leading Sports & Exercise Medicine Physicians in Ireland. Recently, he was the Medical Officer for Team Ireland for the Paris Olympic Games 2024. He consults for many of Irelands top sportsmen and women and applies such elite-level care principles to all his patients.

He completed his undergraduate medical training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and gained extensive experience in Orthopaedics and Emergency Medicine across Ireland and Australia. He then pursued a Master’s in Sports & Exercise Medicine at Trinity College Dublin, followed by General Practice training at RCSI/Dublin. Dr. Kearney further specialised by completing Higher Specialist Training in Sports & Exercise Medicine with the Faculty of Sports & Exercise Medicine (RCSI/RCPI).

Dr. Kearney works with high-performance athletes across a wide range of disciplines. In the past, he was physician for a number of sporting codes, including:

• Olympic & International Athletics – Team Ireland (Athletics) for the Paris Olympics, Sport Ireland Institute, Dublin Marathon Series

• Soccer – Republic of Ireland men’s underage teams, Women’s National Senior Team, Shamrock Rovers FC

• Golf – European Tour, Legends Tour

• Rugby – Trinity Rugby, Easts Rugby Union Brisbane

• GAA – Louth GAA, Chairman of the Gaelic Athletic Medical Association, Member of the GAA Medical Scientific Welfare Committee

• Rowing – Commercial Rowing Club

• Expedition Medicine – Medical lead on Mount Kilimanjaro

In addition to his clinical and sports roles, Dr. Kearney is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in Sports & Exercise Medicine at Trinity College Dublin. He has held editorial positions with the BMJ Open Sport & Exercise Medicine Journal and the British Journal of Sports Medicine. He has authored 19 peer reviewed publications. 

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dr. Kearney previously played underage intercounty Gaelic football and now enjoys running, cycling, tennis, and golf. He remains committed to advancing sports medicine and ensuring the highest standards of musculoskeletal care to his patients.
