Mr Fitzmaurice is a graduate of University College Dublin and Queen's University Belfast. Following appointment to the higher specialist training program at The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, he trained across the various Irish Cardiothoracic surgical units successfully completing his FRCSI (Cardiothoracic Surgery) in 2017. He completed a minimally invasive Thoracic Surgical Fellowship at The Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital, the largest single site specialist heart and chest hospital in the UK, and was awarded the inaugural Jack A. Roth Fellowship in Thoracic Surgical Oncology from the American Association for Thoracic Surgery which he undertook at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He has been a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at St James's Hospital since 2019.
