Mr Mandal is a graduate of the University of Southampton School of Medicine and pursued his specialist training in Ophthalmology in both the United Kingdom and Sweden. He enhanced his surgical expertise through specialized fellowship training in cataract surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, and vitreoretinal surgery at King’s College Hospital, London. Mr Mandal was awarded a Ph.D. in Medicine from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. His research, conducted in collaboration with the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, focused on the vitreoretinal proteomic changes following retinal detachment. He has authored a number of peer-reviewed publications and presented his research at various international meetings.  

Mr Mandal is registered as a specialist in ophthalmic surgery and medical ophthalmology with the Irish Medical Council. He also holds specialist ophthalmology registration with the General Medical Council (UK), National Board of Health and Welfare (Sweden) and Norwegian Directorate of Health. He is a member of the Irish College of Ophthalmologists, Royal College of Ophthalmologists, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology. Mr Mandal served as a consultant in Stockholm before assuming his current role as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Galway Clinic, where he works together with Mr Frank Kinsella in Suite 14.
