Mr. O’Malley is a consultant Urologist since 2007. Originally from the Connemara Gaeltacht, he graduated in medicine at UCG in 1996. On returning to the Galway Clinic in 2007, he established Ireland’s first Robotic Assisted Radical Prostatectomy program performing the first case that year. To date he has completed over 1500 cases. He was appointed Consultant Urologist to Galway University Hospital in 2012 and established a Robotic Assisted Radical Prostatectomy program there in 2018. He is currently the NCCP prostate cancer lead for Saolta Hospital group along with being the director of Robotic Surgery at Galway University Hospital. He is a mentor to the robotic surgery fellow at the Galway Clinic and was appointed an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. He is currently vice chairperson of the Medical Advisory Committee at the Galway Clinic.
He completed his basic surgical training at University College Hospital Galway. His higher surgical training in Urology was completed in the UK with awarding of his FRCS (Urol) in 2005. He completed a fellowship in Urological Oncology and Robotic Assisted Surgery in Melbourne in 2007 prior to returning to the Galway Clinic.
