Prakash Madhavan graduated from the University of Madras in 1985. He completed his surgical training in the UK and Ireland becoming became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1990. He was awarded the Inter-Collegiate fellowship in General Surgery in 1996.
He trained in many vascular units throughout Ireland and the UK and developed a keen interest in endovascular surgery under the tutelage of Greg Shanik and Dermot Moore when he worked as their trainee in St. James’s Hospital. All endovascular interventions in the unit have been surgeon performed since the mid 90’s He was appointed Consultant Vascular Surgeon in St. James’s Hospital in 2000 Since then he has advanced the role of endovascular surgery in the unit by bringing on board many advanced techniques to treat peripheral vascular disease and aneurysmal disease. The unit and his consultant colleagues in St. James’s Hospital are renowned for their teaching ethos and is the premier training unit in Ireland. Every vascular unit in Ireland currently has consultant appointees who have trained in the Unit in St. James’s Hospital.
