Margaret is a Consultant Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon for over 20 years, now working part-time clinically, as she has recently been appointed as Group Medical Director to the Blackrock HealthCare Group of hospitals; Blackrock, Galway and Hermitage Clinics. A 1984 graduate of UCD, she trained in Ireland, UK and Australia, before being appointed a Consultant, jointly to St. Vincent’s University Hospital and St. James’s Hospital, a post she held for 10 years (1998-2008). During this time, she was the Lead Consultant in the National Burns Unit in St. James’s Hospital. She has a keen interest in Patient Safety and has been Special Lecturer in the RCSI in Human Factors & Patient Safety. Since 2017, she delivers workshops and webinars for Medical Protection (MPS) in both UK and Ireland. She was President of the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons (IAPS) 2014-2016, and was appointed for a second term to the Advisory Committee for Medical Devices of Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA). Since 2018, she has sat on the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI). She is married with three grown-up children.
