Prof. Billy Bourke is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist with extensive experience and interest in all aspects of intestinal, liver and complex nutritional disorders of childhood. He qualified in medicine in UCD and trained in Crumlin Children's Hospital before pursuing a Fellowship in Paediatric Gastroenterology at The Hospital for Sick Children Toronto. He is a senior clinician in the National Center for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition at CHI-Crumlin
Prof. Burke received his MB, BCh, BAO medical degree from UCD in 1988 and MD in 1996. His post graduate paediatric training was conducted in Crumlin and Rotunda Hospitals. He pursued a Fellowship in Paediatric Gastroenterology between 1994 and 1997
As Associate Professor of Paediatrics in UCD he has a strong track record in both clinical and translational research. He has published over 100 research papers in international peer-reviewed journals garnering over 2500 citations and H-index of 30. His clinical and laboratory research has focused on basic mechanisms of infectious and inflammatory intestinal diseases. He also have a strong interest in cystic fibrosis liver disease.
