Eamon Mulkerrin is a graduate of University of Galway. He completed his dual speciality(Geriatric and Internal Medicine) training in Ireland, the United Kingdom and USA. Having been awarded a prestigious Nuffield Foundation Travelling Fellowship, he was recruited by the Nephrology and Gerontology Divisions in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
He was subsequently appointed as Consultant in Internal and Geriatric Medicine at Galway University Hospital and was a Professor of Medicine in University of Galway. More recently, he worked with the Bermuda Health Authority and King Edward VII Hospital, Bermuda, developing and enhancing services for older people.

Eamon has published extensively on wide ranging topics. Special areas of focus were bone health/vitamin D, dementia, cardiorenal problems (hypertension, effects of salt on blood pressure, changes in kidney function with increasing age), electrolyte abnormalities in old age, effects of heat and climate change on older people, health services for older people and polypharmacy.
He has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed international medical journals and also published 3 books relating to the diagnosis and management of the problems of older people. Eamon has delivered hundreds of research presentations at national and international meetings and conferences.
He completed an MD thesis on ground-breaking research focused on cardiovascular neurohormones including atrial natriuretic peptides and arginine vasopressin including the development of a novel assay method for both hormones.
