Professor Maccon M. Keane is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at GUH Galway and associate Professor of Medicine at NUIG. He is the Medical Oncology advisor to the National Cancer Control Program and associate director of the SAOLTA cancer MCAN. In 1999 he has was appointed Consultant Medical Oncologist at University College Hospital Galway where he has established a clinical trials program and developed medical oncology services in the West of Ireland. His clinical interest is in molecular therapeutics of cancer in particular breast cancer. Through the NCCP he has led programs to develop Medical Oncology services nationally.
He was conferred with a MB MAO BCh Hons degree from UCD in 1987 and a MD degree from UCD in 1996. His Medical Oncology fellowship training was at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Bethesda MD.
He was appointed as Investigator in the Genetics Department of the Division of Clinical Sciences at the NCI in 1994.In 1999 he has was appointed Consultant Medical Oncologist at University College Hospital Galway where he has established a clinical trials program and developed medical oncology services in the West of Ireland.
